Muscles sometimes develop knotted areas called trigger points, that are highly sensitive areas which can be painful when touched. They are also often the cause of referred pain (or pain that affects another part of the body). Physiotherapists insert non medicated needles into the skin, into the muscles to reach these trigger points. Often patients may experience a twitch response which will alleviate such symptoms.

Dry Needling is effective for reducing pain, increasing pressure pain threshold, and improving function during the immediate to 12-week treatment period in patients with musculoskeletal pain.
